At the Soo Locks in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan (Upper Peninsula), I made the mistake of not explaining the locks to the boys. At first, they thought when the lock filled up it would also fill up the ship.
“We get all wet?” Isaac asked.
That’s the only way I knew they were worried about that! So I explained to them we would stay on top of the water, and then they were fine and even got a good giggle about how they rode alllll the way up to street level on the boat. Of course, coming back, we went down in water level instead of up.
